You saw in previous vlogs how the Mentawai tribal people hunt and gather food... Now it's time you see how they go fishing with handmade spear guns and fishing nets! The lady I'm living with decided to dress traditionally with no clothes other than cut-up banana leaves for a skirt. She said she likes to dress like this when fishing because it’s more camouflaged and harder for the fish to see her. You will also see it’s common that not only the tribal people but also the children like to walk around with machetes. Is it to protect themselves? Maybe so considering the kids are walking around in the jungle with no adult supervision but this is how it is here.

Just wanna share to you how in indonesia we catch squids, anchovies n tiny prawns traditional way. This is one the best floating fishing trap that usually used by Indonesian traditional fisherman. The advantage of this floating fishing trap is we can move it wherever we want to look for the best spot. Made mostly from woods, this traditional fishing trap are equiped with machine to turn on the light, the machine is used to pull up the ropes. Also it has a cooking section to cook the anchovies, after that its will be dried in the sun to maintaine the quality of the anchovies, which are also salted with salt to make its last longer. Dried anchovies, dried baby squids and tiny praws are very common to eat especially in Indonesia and most country from south east asia. You can make it as a dipping sauce or you can cooked it with sambal (kinds of chilly paste) and already becomed one of the signature dishies in Indonesia. Hopefully you can enjoy the review for the traditional floting fishing trap and make sure you watch the next video to see the detail of the process while we catch squids, anchovies and tiny praws. Thank you for watching and Gob Bless You. #floatingfishingtrap #fishingmethods #traditionalfishingtechniques

Fishing for tuna by pole-and-line, handline or troll (using one hookand one line to catch tuna one at a time - collectively known as one-by-one fishing) is widely practised by many small-scale coastal fisheries throughout the world, and is deeply embedded in many cultures. It is regarded as the most socially and environmentally responsible way to fish for tuna as it results in virtually zero bycatch and has minimal impact on the environment. Depicted in this video is an Indonesian pole-and-line fishery in Bitung. Please share this video (released to celebrate World Ocean Day - 8th June 2016) to raise the profile of these responsible fisheries and encourage support to ensure that the livelihoods, communities and seas that depend upon them can thrive. Skippers shocked by influx of Indonesian fishing boats in protected waters close to Australia

Skippers shocked by influx of Indonesian fishing boats in protected waters close to Australian mainland. Photographs obtained by the ABC reveal a surge in illegal Indonesian fishing crews operating close to the Australian mainland, seemingly under the nose of federal border protection agencies. Multiple operators have provided footage and photographs showing foreign fishermen scooping up seafood and clambering on delicate coral atolls within the Rowley Shoals Marine Park. The boat skippers say it's the first time they've seen Indonesian crews at the coral reefs, which are located 300 kilometres off the coast of Broome. Ross Newton has been running boat charters in the area for more than 30 years. He says he is worried the influx of illegal fishers has occurred because authorities are no longer boarding boats to due COVID-19. "I've never seen an Indonesian boat there before, but on this last trip we saw seven individual foreign vessels, which is very worrying," he said. "They were out there walking all over the reef and collecting what they could – all within sanctuary zones at one of the most pristine dive sites and wilderness areas in the world. "We're not sure if it's because of COVID, that the authorities aren't boarding them and sending the back like they normally would." IMPORTANT! Indonesian fishermen apprehended with alleged illegal catch, to be deported from Darwin. Eight suspected illegal Indonesian fishermen have been brought to immigration detention in Darwin after being arrested with a haul of sea snails in Australian waters. The men were apprehended in the Timor Sea early on Thursday, the Maritime Border Command said, which works with the Australian Border Force and the Australian Fisheries Management Authority. An MBC surveillance plane spotted the boat near Browse Island, about 280 nautical miles north-north-east of Broome in Western Australia, it said in a statement on Friday afternoon. "The vessel was unseaworthy and could not be towed safely to shore," MBC said. The boat was destroyed at sea and its crew were brought to Darwin by the HMAS Bathurst. They will be investigated by AFMA for alleged breaches of the Fisheries Management Act. Inspector Ray Graham said the organisation had been "very successful in apprehending Indonesian fishing vessels attempting to exploit our natural resources". "Protecting the rich biodiversity of Australian waters is a high priority for the Australian Border Force," he said. This is the first time in a decade there has been a seizure of trochus shell from a foreign fishing vessel in Australian waters, said Peter Venslovas, AMFA's general manager of operations. He said that since July 1 last year, the three organisations had together caught 15 foreign vessels allegedly fishing illegally in Australian waters. IMPORTANT! In this documentary we travel to Indonesia, the Sulawesi island, there we know the Toraja and Bajau, two ethnic groups who have a very particular culture and traditions. There, we attended a Toraja funeral, an event that they have become an amazing ritual of several days. We dive into the wonderful world that lies behind the coral reef that runs through large part of the Indonesian archipelago. And finally we boarded on the Bajau (sea gypsies) houseboats who live in even closer contact with the sea. In fact, they could not conceive of life without it. ▶ SUBSCRIBE! 🤍 Full Documentaries every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday! ▶ Documentary. "Indonesia. The Ghosts of Sulawesi" 🤍 The inhabitants of Sulawesi have always had a very close relationship with the sea. These men belong to the Bugui ethnic group, considered the best boat builders and sailors in the Indian Ocean. But there is another ethnic group which lives in even closer contact with the sea. In fact, they could not conceive of life without it. That group is the Bajau. At the other end of the island, in the calm waters of the Gulf of Tomini, these nomads have for centuries conquered the sea. They live out their lives on these small, fragile boats called leppas, where they are born, marry, reproduce and die. In them they move along the coast, propelled by the winds and the currents, and rarely set foot on dry land. Their origins remain unknown, though some anthropologists believe they come from the south of the Malaysian peninsula. Since then, innumerable legends have surrounded these the Sea Gypsies They rarely venture far from the coast. Their lives are spent fishing close by the mangrove swamps and the coral reefs. Here, they find almost everything they need. The Bajau know many different fishing methods, but perhaps the most curious of all is this one, fishing with kites. The technique they use is simple but very effective. It consists of attaching a hook to the kite, which is made from fern leaves, and with the help of a pole, the fisherman can move the hook as far out as he wants. The swaying of the kite keeps the bait in constant movement, attracting above all the flying fish. The government tried to house the first families along the coast, but they were unable to adapt to dry land, and soon returned to their boats. Then, the Bajau suggesting building the village over the sea, and so Torosiaji was born. Though the greatest number of Bajaus live in Sulawesi, there are also groups of them in Myanmar, where they are called Moken, or ‘the people drowned by the sea’; in Thailand, they are known as the Chao Nam, or ‘water people’, and they can also be found along the coasts of the Philippines and Vietnam. 16:50:00 The mosque and the school are the only buildings in Torosiaji standing on dry land. Well, not exactly dry land, because they have been build on foundations made of coral. At midday, the waters are very shallow, and this is when the Bajau comb the sea bottom in search of food. Their basic diet is fish and rice. The rice they buy in the markets on the coast, where once a week the women go to sell the fish they have caught, and buy basic necessities such as fresh water. The Bajau are also magnificent divers, and can remain underwater for over five minutes, and dive down up to 15 metres. ▶ SUBSCRIBE | 🤍 ▶ FULL DOCUMENTARIES | 🤍 ▶ TRIBES DOCUMENTARIES | 🤍 ▶ FACEBOOK | 🤍 ▶ TWITTER | 🤍 ▶ TUMBLR | 🤍
