Formed in 1983 the hair metal band Poison’s original lineup would consist vocalist Bret Michaels, guitarist Matt Smith, bassist Bobby Dall and drummer Rikki Rockett The band soon grew frustrated in pennsylvania of hitting it big and moved out to the west coast. It was around 1985 their guitarist quit the band after his girlfriend got pregnant and they moved back hoe to Pennsylvania. At one point Guns n’ Roses guitarist slash auditioned for the band but didn’t seem to gel with their idea of makeup and costumes. However soon afterwards they crossed paths with guitarist CC deville who hailed from brooklyn. Influenced by the new york dolls and lou reed he too was a frustrated musician who headed out west for greener pastrues. CC nailed the audition and was now the band’s guitarist but along with his talent he brought along some bad habits with Rikki Rockett revealing in the book nothin but a good time. “”C.C. was a little bit of a bad influence, okay. Because hwas actually doing things like that before we really got him in the band.” Meanwhile CC deville would add in the same book following the multiplatinum success of the groups first album look what the cat dragged in “All of a sudden your real life exceeds your dreams, but then if you still kind of feel empty for something else, for whatever it is, well then the drugs come in. The group’s second album Open Up and Say Ahhh would be released in 1988 and producer Tom Werman would recall just how difficult CC Deville could be in the studio recalling “he was loud and he was funny and he was all over the place. Very energetic. And so was his playing. He was more concerned with being as fast as Eddie Van Halen than with being creative. The solo for nothin but a good time took eight hours partially because CC was constantly going back and forto the bathroom. By the early 1990’s substance abuse and a clash of egos took over the band. Bret Michaels would reveal in the same book “CC was getting fucked up an i was drinking. He’s high but I’m drunk. We were having rows, he slammed me. I slammed him. We kept having really stupid arguements stuff like his guitar was too loud for me to hear myself sing. We just couldn’t get it straightened out. I called it our substance egos. We had just been on tour way too long. Everyone was paranoid and down. one show in New Orleans a few months before their VMA performance, the pair would come to blows. In June of 1991, Poison cancelled subsequent tour dates for their Flesh and Blood tour. Rumours started to swirl that Poison was done. Then it all came to a head at the 1991 MTV video music awards in September where poison performed. The band was supposed to play unskinny bop from their latest record at the time, but during the performance CC deville played the wrong song talk dirty to me. Adding to the problems was that his guitar got unplugged while on stage and host Arsenio Hall tried to save things by introducing the band a second time. What happened behind the scenes is still subject to debate. One version of of events is that the guitarist didn’t want to play the band’s new single and that’s why he played Talk Dirty to Me. Another version is that the guitarist misunderstood what Michaels said on stage hence why he played Talk Dirty to Me. Here’s what happened that night. It was following the performance Michaels and CC got into a fistfight backstage and the guitarist was fired from the band. Then in 1992 the LA Times reported about a fight between CC and Michaels during the singer’s appearance on a radio show. Michaels would appear on the nationally syndicated “Pirate Radio Saturday Night,” that was hosted by one of RIP magazine’s editors. CC called into the show and yelled at his former bandmate claiming he was unfairly kicked out of the band and he was hurt by comments michaels made about the guitarist referring to him as and i quote bozo the expletive clown” when talking about the band’s mtv video music awards appearance. While the interview was never publicly aired the tape did make the rounds in the music industry and the LA Times did transcribe an exchange that went as follows regarding what happened after CC was fired Michaels: We didn

My dad and I have a long-standing argument about who’s the better guitarist: Slash or C.C. DeVille? The answer is obviously Slash, so I put together a compilation of some of their guitar solos from their respective bands, Guns N’ Roses and Poison in order to prove that I’m right. Enjoy, and be sure to let me know who you think is better! I might do more of these comparisons, so if you have any particular ones you want to see, let me know :) PS: The quality is bad, I know. It must have gotten messed up when it was posted. I’m sorry! Instagram: 🤍estraged.illusions

Sure, he battled drugs and had all the issues that go along with it, but didn't almost everyone from that era? Today, we take a deeper look. Should Ace Frehley, C.C. DeVille, and Mick Mars be considered some of the absolute worst of the 80s rock guitar heroes? During the hair metal craze of the ‘80s and ‘90s, Poison was on top of the world. Led by Bret Michaels, the band had hits with songs like “Every Rose Has its Thorn” and “Nothin’ but a Good Time." But things were quite difficult behind the scenes. Michaels had been facing health issues from childhood, guitarist C.C. DeVille’s alcoholism got so bad that he was fired from the band, and replacement guitarist Richie Kotzen was fired for his relationship with drummer Rikki Rockett’s ex-fiancee. They’ve continued to be plagued by troubles in recent years, so let’s take a look at the tragic story of Poison. #Poison #Band #Musicians Bret Michaels' early diabetes diagnosis | 0:00 Poison fired C.C. Having been touring and working together non-stop for six years straight the tensions between singer Bret Michaels and guitarist C.C. DeVille were growing not helping was C.C. DeVille drug addiction at the time and at one show in New Orleans a few months before their VMA performance, the pair would come to blows and in June of 1991 Poison would cancel subsequent tour dates for their flesh and blood tour and rumors started to swirl that poison was done. Fast forward now to the MTV VMAs and the band was set to perform on Unskinny Bop. There was even warning signs the awards show that their performance was going to be a disaster here's a clip of C.C.. DeVille prior to poisons performance you can see he's pretty much out of his mind at this point, Having fun wow everybody''s getting a lot of thank you's. I'd like to thank my makeup artist sherry hello! Now listen this is your last chance what time is it. Hey listen this is your last chance for the viewers choice awards. If you haven't voted. C.C. we got Don Henley coming up Just as poison took the stage I've heard a couple different stories of what actually happened so one story I've heard is that C.C. DeVille didn't want to perform on Unskinny Bop instead he wants to play Talk Dirty To Me. Another story I've heard is that Brett Michaels asked the audience if they were ready to talk dirty to me which confused C.C. DeVille as the band transition from playing on skinny Bob to talk dirty to me C.C's guitar will get unplugged even host Arsenio Hall tries to save the performance by reintroducing the band a second time and after the performance poison will get into a fistfight backstage and that would pretty much be the end of CC Deville's time in the band for almost half a decade here's part of their MTV performance Oh [Applause] I want to make love you never stop Come up for air you push me to the floor What's been going on in hear. Well all night and day. sing it. unskinny bop just blows me away. Well actually they need no introduction right? I'll give him one anyway. Poison! Let's get down to it and get ready to play. CC give me all deep down. You in the mood tonight? Ok MTV let's go do it. When I hear the music. You ready to talk dirty to me? Hit it C.C.Call you on the telephone I'm only hoping that you're home So I can hear you When you say those words to me And whisper so softly I gotta hear her 'Cause baby we'll be At the drive-in In the old man's Ford following the performance C.C Deville be out of the band and replaced by ritchie kotzen while deville would cling to his drug addiction and start a solo career the band would release their follow-up record Native Tongue that represented a huge change in sound for the group and while i was praised by critics the rise of alternative rock overshadowed the album and hurt sales and the band's new sound was more blues oriented and their new songs seemed to shed their party image take on more serious subject matter and while things seem to be clicking for the group new guitarist Richie Kotzen would end up having an affair with Rikki Rockets fiance at the time and his time and the band was over. Poison began recording its sixth studio album crack a smile in early 1994 but the sessions came to an abrupt end in May of that year when singer Brett Michael's was involved in a horrific car crash where he suffered a broken nose ribs jaw and fingers and lost four teeth and by 1995 the band was ready to finish up work on the record but their label had a different idea. They wanted a greatest hits compilation instead and it would be a smart move as the greatest his compilation album would be put out in l
